NHS-4004 Module Assessment

A 4000-word essay comprising 3 separately assessed parts. This is presented as one essay but with the three headings in the essay:

Part I (1500 words = 40% weighting): Using a specified tool or approach*, conduct a health needs assessment of a defined population and setting, and identify what the population’s health needs or priorities are.

Part II (2000 words = 50 % weighting): Use the findings form Part I to identify a health priority for action and discuss intervention(s) to address these.. You will also need to discuss how these will be evaluated, and refer to public involvement / empowerment, and sustainability.

Part III (500 words: 10% weighting): Write a media release (targeted at a lay audience) that summarises the findings described in Part I and II above.

NB Key concepts, theories and models, and political or ethical issues will need to be detailed in Parts I or II. The tool or approach that you use to conduct the health needs assessment must be referred to (referenced) in the assignment.

Assignment Support:

  1. Class discussions: There will be group sessions to discuss the assignment. This will be during one of the Timetabled taught sessions.
  2. Tutorials: Small group tutorials will take place in Week 10. If you want to discuss the content of your assignment on an individual basis, then please arrange a tutorial with your Assignment Supervisor, a week in advance.
  3. Draft: Your Assignment Supervisor will look at a draft of up to 20% of the total word count. You should email this draft to Jaci Huws j.huws@bangor.ac.uk by 3pm on 12th January 2021
  4. Peer support: Students find using the Module Discussion boards useful for providing peer (student-to-student) support. Students are therefore encouraged to participate in the Open Discussion Board.
  5. Revision 1: Students can submit their written assignments into the Module’s Assignment ‘Revision 1’ to check whether any areas have been plagiarised. The Assignment Supervisor does not look at this version.

Grading of Written Summative Assignments

To pass, the student must achieve C- or above and marks will be given according to the criteria detailed in the Bangor university Regulations for Taught postgraduate Programmes, and in the Code of Practice for Assessment. In summary:

Pass Referral / Fail

If a referral grade is awarded at first attempt, the student will be given one further opportunity to resubmit the assignment, according to time scales set by the Examination Board. One further attempt may be taken as an external candidate.
